Greene County magistrate court, week ending Aug. 8

In Greene county magistrate court Brian Lee Berns of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment Aug. 7 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment-third degree. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must pay a $250 civil penalty and $181.50 court costs. A charge of disorderly conduct was dismissed.

Curtis Paul Carstens of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he pleaded guilty to a charge of harassment-third degree. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must pay a $100 civil penalty and $81.50 court costs.

A judgment was entered in magistrate court in a case initiated in district court in which Timothy Leroy Merriam of Boone was charged with indecent exposure. He pleaded guilty to an amended charge of harassment, and a judgment was entered for a $100 fine with a $35 surcharge. He must also pay $60 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $60 court costs.

A trial was held Aug. 6 on a case in which Jacob Arthur Ore of Jefferson faced four different charges. Magistrate Rita Pedersen found insufficient evidence to support charges of domestic abuse assault-simple and disorderly conduct. Those charges were dismissed. She found Ore guilty of public intoxication and trespass. He was sentenced to time served on the public intoxication charge. He was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge on the trespass charge. He must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs totaling $176.10.

A judgment was entered against Thomas James Petrzilka Jr of Council Bluffs on a charge of theft-fifth degree. He was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge. He must pay a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge, $40.01 restitution (gas drive off) and $81 court costs.

Case were initiated as follows: Arthur Henry Chambers of Jefferson, possession of drug paraphernalia; Christina Ellen Chapman, assault-simple; and Terry Wain Ritter of Yale, assault-simple.

Persons paid fines for scheduled traffic violations during the week of Aug. 8 as follows: Heather Lee Dennhardt of Rippey and Leon Andrew Schultes of Lidderdale, speed, $60; *Wayne Perkins Randy of Luverne, MN, and Dana Allen Harrison of Jefferson, unsafe backing, $100; and *Irene Alice Scott of Coon Rapids, failure to yield to vehicle on right.

Also, speed, $80 (11-15 mph over limit): Jacob Tyler Challen of Jefferson.
